Dear Hair SOS, This cold weather is making my hair go really frizzy and I have no idea how to tame it. Any suggestions?
- Hannah from SurreyWell Hannah, you really do need to invest in a decent product or two to stop your hair getting damp in the moist air - which is what causes the frizz factor to spiral out of control. It's essential to use an anti-humidity hairspray to shield your hair from the elements. However, I also recommend a lightweight serum to keep it shinny and smooth. In the salon for this type of hair problem we would use Goldwell StyleSign Superego Pump Freezer Non-Aerosol Hair Lacquer and KMS's Flatout Smoothing Serum. Most importantly though, don't stress out too much about a little frizz. Remember poker-straight hair is soooo last season anyway!
- Sean Nolan, Burlingtons Art Team DirectorFringe or no fringe? I have been considering a fringe for absolutely ages but am too scared to take the plunge. My hair is wavy, shoulder length and I straighten it every time I wash it. What do you think?
- Jenny, GlasgowThis is a really tricky one Jenny, because on one hand fringes are high maintenance and if you want that kind of immaculate almost wig look (just like Cheryl Cole had in her early Girls Aloud days), then you really are going to struggle with your hair type. However, don't rule a fringe out all together. I'm a massive fan of headscarves and hair accessories for keeping a fringe off the face, and with a little imagination you can have a fringe that gives you a stunning face-framing look some of the time, but transform it in an instant to a more casual style with the right accessories. In fact, one of our hair tutorials (add link in here) will show you how to create a beautiful plait across the front of your hairline to neatly tuck the fringe away. Give it a try.
- Kathryn Greensmith, Burlingtons , LondonI want some advice on how i can create a quiff because i have curly wavey hair.....and im considering a new hairstyle but i'm not sure what hairstyle to get.
- AbsIts always a good idea to have a consultation in person with a stylist to discuss your hair and also for the stylist to have a look at your hair type to see what suits you best. Burlingtons like most salons, offer free hair consultations so walk-in to any of our salons and have a chat with one of our stylists!
- Ceri, Senior Stylist, CardiffWhat's the best way in keeping volume and lift in my hair to last all day?
- Suzanna, ManchesterWe recommend for you to use KMS Add Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. KMS Add Volume Root and body lift is a must before styling your hair-just spray into your roots. When blowdrying, tip your head upside-down and blast against the root to increase the volume.
- Sacha Ollandini, StylistI naturally have dark blonde hair with natural light blonde highlights. However, I have been dying my hair dark brown/red for about 5 years. I want to go back blonde but the last time I tried with a store bought hair dye, it went orange! Is there any way to get my hair back to dark blonde in one visit, or is it a process that is going to take multiple visits to the hairdressers?
- Kerry
The answer in short to your question is 'yes you can go back to being a dark blonde' however there is a lot of questions and visual checks we would need to do prior to corrective colour service.
Any great colour technician will tell you that the colour correction can be a long and difficult service so my best advice for the present moment would be to do 3 things;
- Do not apply any more colour products to your hair yourself.
- Apply a high quality replenishing mask such as KMS Moistrepair treatment.
- Come in and see one of our stylists for a full colour consultation.
How can I make very dry hair softer and shinier?
- NainaI would 100% recommend Moroccan Oil. Just add a 5p size dose all over your hair and especially on the whilst damp. Style your hair as usual. Your hair will be protected against the heat, feel amazingly soft and silky and have great shine.
- Gemma, Burlingtons NewcastleHow do I get natural looking waves on very straight hair?
- SheenalAfter washing your hair, use KMS Curl-Up Balm. I would use GHD’s or any good hair straightener you have. Start at the root, you wrap the hair once around the straighteners and pull down to the bottom. This should form a curl which you can loosen up with your fingers. To keep the hold, use a tiny amount of Goldwell Curl Wax or a product to help hold your hair style.
- Gemma, Burlingtons NewcastleI have really fine hair that i have regular blonde highlights in and straighten on a regular basis. My hair is very split at the sides. Without using hair straightners i feel like my hair is flat at the top and out of control at the ends. Is there anything you can recommened without using straighteners to give my hair a break but to also keep it in control but with volume? Am i asking for a miracle??? Thank you.
- HannahDear Hannah,
There are so many clients that see me with same problem. Sometimes it’s down to you using the wrong shampoo, maybe you're approaching your hair in the wrong way. When you highlight your hair, you break down the natural bonds, this is what is leaving your hair feeling dry and damaged. I recommend you to use a protein shampoo (KMS moist repair) this will strengthen your hair and prevent breakage. It’s common to have flat hair, try using a leave-in conditioner that will give you moisture and combabilty, this is way better than using a heavy cream conditioner (KMS two phase leave-in). For thickness use KMS root and body lift, spray on the roots taking small sections. To give you 3x more body, use a round brush to give you height and smoothness. you’ll find it's a lot easier when using professional products and your hair will look great!
- Luke, Burlingtons BirminghamWhat is the most popular haircut and style? Also, my hair always looks greasy even though I wash it everyday. I've tried all sorts to make it look healthy, bouncy, natural and shiny but nothing seems to help. I've been dying it vibrant red at my local hairdressers every few weeks but within 2-3 washes its very dull. What is the best solution for me?
- Katie
Hi Katie,
There are so many hair cuts that are on trend at the moment. I would recommend you to sit down with your stylist and go straight back to basics. Tell her all of your problems with the hair cut as she can see the true texture of your hair and your face shape. This way your stylist can create a hair cut that is bespoke and on trend. If you feel that your hair is oily, try using a clarifying shampoo by KMS, this will gently cleanse the hair and scalp of excess oil, without stripping the hair. SilkSheen leave in conditioner will lightly add moisture to the hair and give a gorgeous sheen. Ensure that you blow-dry your hair correctly and then use KMS ColourVitality shine and shield. This will give you a glass finish shine and protect your hair from colour fade.
Dear Hair SOS, I have just had the Nano Keratin Brazilian Blow Dry and what a difference it has made to the manageability of my hair. How long should I wait before having my roots coloured or an all over colour?
- Julie PowerWe’re thrilled your happy with the results and it has made a difference to your hair. For any colour or highlights you need to wait 2 ½ weeks after having the Keratin Treatment.
- Maryum, LondonWhat can I use to remove hair laquer residue on my hair?
- Teresa HudsonI would recommend you use KMS Clarifying Shampoo which would exfoliate the hair and the scalp or an anti-dandruff shampoo.
- Jodie, Burlingtons BirminghamHey guys, I've wanted a quiff for a while now, and I'm going to do it. I am going to style it like Sean Nolan did in his "How to Create a Dry, Textured Quiff" video. I was wondering what numbers Sean got for his hair before he quiffs it. I think my hair is okay to cut in that shape now, I'd just like some expert opinion. Thanks!
- MattHi Matt,
He would have used number one on the back and sides of his head. The top part would have been kept alot longer.
- Sascha, Burlingtons LondonHow can I thicken my shoulder length hair?
- LynetteUse a thickening product into the roots (An example would be KMS Add Volume, Volumising Spray). Blow-dry your hair the opposite way to the direction it falls which will create more volume at the roots.
